Chromebook – Cloud Computing and Its Significance

Google, the main company in the search market by miles compared to its other competitors is a truly magnificent workforce. Not only has the powerhouse in search market, Google also strived for other industries. After introducing the Android OS for smart phones that take the world by storm, Google is now eyeing for a chance to get into the notebooks industry. Their first attempt into the market is Google Chrome OS that is a lightweight operating system for notebooks. Not only have that, Google also made cooperation with Acer to produce a notebook special for Google Chrome OS, the Chromebook.

Chromebook is designed for users that are consistently connected to the internet. This is because Google Chrome OS uses the revolutionary cloud computing technology where most of the user’s applications all come from the web. By doing this, the workload of the laptop is greatly minimized and this brings out the maximum potential of this laptop. Chromebook is the first generation of laptops that fully uses this technology. So why is it called cloud computing?

The term cloud comes from the drawings made by IT professionals where they use it to represent the network. This is because all of the networks are located in one place and they are all connected to each other, whether directly or indirectly. Therefore, we can imagine that cloud computing is where all the data shown on your device comes from the shared connections located in the ‘cloud’ which is the network. The device being mentioned here does not only directed to the laptops, but also other electronic devices like desktops, servers, tablets and also smartphones.

Not only known for its reliability and cost-saving feature, cloud computing is also significant in making the world a better place. Based from a research, 15% of the total global carbon dioxide’s emissions will come from the ICT industry and most of them come from data centres that are a place where data is located. To make it easier to understand, data centres is where your Facebook profiles and your e-mails are located and without them, all of your information will be gone.

With cloud computing, the data will all be located at a big data centre and this will lessen the emergence of new data centres. It is estimated that by doing this, the amount of carbon dioxide emissions reduced are equal to planting more than five thousand trees! This will really help in saving our Earth from the massive greenhouse effect.

In conclusion, cloud computing is a great technology to help the earth and you can also do your part by considering to use Chromebook for your daily life.
