So You Think You Know Everything About TVs?

TVs are one of the must have electronic devices inside a house. Compared to the past, TVs nowadays are really lightweight with better quality of display. Moreover, the price of the TVs are getting cheaper day by day. During the era where CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) TVs, there are no other types of displays that you can find in the market. This is completely different from nowadays where you can choose between Plasma, LCD (Liquid Crystal Display and also the old CRT displays which is a bargain for those who need a TV at home.

Perhaps the most popular displays in the world of TV today are the LCD TV. This is because it is cheaper than Plasma and LED TVs with more or less similar quality of displays. Some may find that two LCD TVs with the same size and produced by the same company may be priced differently with the different product code. This is a result from different features being provided and also the types of LCD display being used.

There are three types of LCD display in TVs. The first one is the HCFL backlit LCD TV. HCFL comes from the word Hot Cathode Fluorescent Lamps and it gives a brighter light, contrast and also less motion blur at the cost of shorter lifespan. HCFL backlit LCD TV is a greener technology compared to the CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp) backlit LCD TV where it consumes double the power needed for HCFL.

Next is the LED Backlit LCD TVs or more commonly known as LED TVs. This type of TV uses an RGB (red, green, blue) LED (light emitting diode) as a backlight for the display screen. Separate LEDs for each colour creates deeper and more realistic colours than LED TVs which uses white LED as a backlight. This is why LED TVs are more expensive than the HCFL and CCFL backlit LCD TVs.

The last one is the Edge LED backlit LCD TVs. This is just a slimmer version of the LED TVs where the LEDs in this type of LCD TV are placed around the edge of the TV. Perhaps the slimmest version of this type of TV is the Sony Bravia ZX1 where it is just 9.9 millimetres at its thinnest part. There is also a light guide plate placed inside this LCD TV that focus the light from the LEDs forward in an evenly manner for a brighter picture.

If you are really picky on choosing the right TV, make sure that you consider everything like the weight, display size, bright, contrast, features, energy consumption, warranty and also lifetime of the LCD TV. If you are not, just choose the best LCD TV that fits right into your budget!
