The all-new Amazon Kindle Fire that has been greatly improved for the use of the community today has really taken the world by storm. Thousands of it are sold every day and its various features really attracts potential buyers to purchase them. However, the same cannot be said for those who are experts in the usability area.
According to Jakob Nielsen, known as the guru of web usability in the USA, he found out that Amazon Kindle Fire is not up to his expectations. According to him, there are a lot of limitations in this tablet device and it is amazing how Amazon is still able to rake huge profits from selling this Amazon Kindle Fire.
His study is based on various aspects but the main objective of the study is to find whether the Amazon Kindle Fire will be able to be used effectively and efficiently without causing any problems. One of the aspects being studied upon is on its hardware. One of its limitations is that the Kindle Fire cannot be used in a prolonged time. This is because it will strain the arms and can lead to cramps. It is also found out that the 7-inch display screen is a bit too big for normal use. It is too big to be hold in one hand and it is too awkward to be used using both hands. Like Nielsen said, it is a device that is an awkward fusion of a tablet and a smart phone.
Aside from the hardware problem, software problems are also present inside the Amazon Kindle Fire. The most glaring error is the tablet only runs on a specific version of Android. This means that the applications being developed for the Apple’s iPad 2 (using iOS) or Samsung Galaxy Tab (using Android) will not be usable in the Kindle Fire. It will be hard to attract developers to create applications for the Amazon Kindle Fire because of the dominance of Android and iOS nowadays. That being said, the target audience for the Amazon Kindles are also really small, and this will hinder potential developers.
Despite the many limitations, the Amazon Kindle Fire is still a hot item in the market. Perhaps not everyone have the same poor experience like Nielsen and different people also has different tastes. If you are not fond of the Amazon Kindle Fire because of its limitations, there are always other version of Kindles that may be suitable for your taste.
