An Android Or An iPhone?

This is a question that almost everyone will think when they want to buy a new phone. How can we be sure that buying an Android is better than iPhone and vice versa? Perhaps the study being made here will be able to help you in your decision making.

A study made on the trends of application downloads on both the iPhone and Android showed a very interesting outcome. It is believed that those who buy the Androids are those who love to use applications like the widgets, to-dos and calendar while those who use the iPhone will download games. This is justified by the numbers of downloaded application and games by each operating system. For the Android, the total number of application downloads are almost 4 times more than the iPhone.  In the other hand, the total number of game downloads for the iPhone are 2 times higher than the game downloads in Android.

This shows the main uses of the smart phones by the users. Those who use the Android will use their gadget as a productivity gadget that can help their daily life while iPhone users are using their gadgets to spend their free time, which is playing games. To further justify this statement, the top 150 iPhone app downloads in November 2011 also shows that 67% of them are games (compared to 43% in Android).

However, this does not mean that the consumers are the one at fault. It is also because of the nature of both Android and iPhone. It is a developer’s nightmare to produce a great game for the Android because of the many things that need to be considered; the different screen sizes, graphic chips and processors are just the tip of the iceberg. iPhone game developers do not need to think much about this because all iPhones have more or less the same technical specifications in each generation. This makes it easier to build a great game for the iPhone.

This is why most of the iPhone developers focus more on game developing while the Android developers focus on applications that is easier to build compared to games. However, this does not mean Android games are boring and tasteless. There are good games like the Cube Runner, Hotel Mogul and Doodle Jump but the graphic details will never be as high as iPhone games. This is because lower graphic demand will ensure that the games will sells, because not all Android devices have top-notch graphic processors. An Android or an iPhone? Your choice.

Larger Display For iPhone 5?

More and more smartphones are getting into the market around the world and bigger displays are embedded into most of them. Some of the big names in smartphones are Samsung and HTC and both of them already produced a smartphone with 4.3-inch display, perhaps the biggest display in the market for now.  In the other hand, Apple still maintains the 3.5-inch display on their iPhone which is now in the 4S generation. This is the fifth generation of the highly-acclaimed iPhones that was launched in the last quarter of 2011. However, iPhone 4S might be the last iPhone with 3.5-inch display, where the next generation will be upgraded with bigger and better displays.

This is a crucial step forward by Apple where they finally follow the steps made by other smartphone makers. With a bigger display on iPhone 5, they can be on the same level with Samsung and HTC again and this will boost their competitiveness. This is most probably the retaliation by Apple when iPhone 4S failed to satisfy a lot of critics in the smartphone industry.

This rumour is not based on a hollow ground. There are reports from Hitachi and Sony where they have already started producing 4.0-inch display for Apple. Even though it is still smaller than the Samsung Galaxy S2, this will be great news for Apple fans. Having a large display did not mean that the users are satisfied with it. People who use Samsung Galaxy S2 sometimes find it hard for the phone to fit into pants especially the tight jeans. There are also situations where they will need to use both hands to hold the phone while typing message to prevent it from falling. This is maybe the reason why the rumoured iPhone 5 will only have a 4.0-inch display.

However, there are no reports whether the display made by both Sony and Hitachi will be tougher than the previous generations. This is because iPhone displays are really prone to break whenever it falls on a hard surface, unlike the Samsung Galaxy S2 display which is made from the toughened Gorilla Glass. Aside from the larger display, there are also reports where the iPhone 5 will have a metal casing to make it sturdier if it ever falls. The iPhone 5 is expected to be launched during the summer of 2012 so let us just wait and see whether Apple can get back their competitive edge in the smartphone industry.

Samsung Galaxy S II vs iPhone 4S: Design and User Interface

Now that both Samsung Galaxy S II and iPhone 4S has been released to the market, tech enthusiasts can finally compare the strength and weakness of both phones. Fanatics from both sides always compare their devices and there has been much debate on which is the best smartphone nowadays. Even though the highly anticipated iPhone 5 will not be released anytime soon, iPhone 4S is still a great smartphone that is worth to buy.

First off is the design. The first impression of a digital device will always be judged from its external appearance because no one would buy an ugly smartphone even if it has the latest technology. The design of the Samsung Galaxy S II is very much improved and the design is far sleeker and high-class looking compared to the Samsung Galaxy S. the Galaxy S II also has a larger screen (4.52-inch display) but even with the increase in display size, the phone is still relatively lighter than the previous versions.

iPhone 4S in the other hand is almost indistinguishable to its predecessor on the design, except for the ‘S’ symbol at the back of the phone. It may not be prettier, but the iPhone 4S is still one of the best looking smartphones in the world if it is being judged from its design. Every aspect of a good smartphone design is embedded into the iPhone 4S and it can be said that no other competitors can nudge Apple from its throne, yet.

However, the user interface of the iOS is still the best, hands down. With the addition of Siri, iCloud and others, the iOS 5 is still the king in both design and applications being provided. The Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread OS still has the complexity that may not be favourable to those who hates exploring countless things, even though they are much more improved compared to the previous versions. However, some polishing still needs to be done and maybe then the Android OS can finally be on par with the iOS.

In conclusion, both smartphones have their specialty and weakness but both are still a great device to be owned. However, Samsung Galaxy S II is said to be a bit pricey compared to its counterpart so if you are ok with having a new phone with an old design, you can buy the iPhone 4S.

What’s Inside an iPhone 4S?

Deemed as the most amazing iPhone yet, everyone would be interested to know what makes it the best among all. Could it be the processor? The operating system? The camera? Here, you will discover most of the hardware that makes up the iPhone 4S.

The camera that is being embedded into the iPhone 4s is a Sony-made camera with image sensor and touch controller. In overall, the camera in iPhone 4S has 60% more pixels than its predecessor, the iPhone 4. The greater capability of the chips and the increase in pixels will result in brighter and sharper picture in low-light conditions.

A shocking find from the iPhone 4S is that it is equipped with only 512MB RAM, while most of the smartphones in the market today usually has double the amount. Many would think that iPhone 4S is not comparable to the current lines of smartphones, but the less usage of RAM may also justify that the iPhone OS uses much lower memory compared to Android and Windows Mobile OS.

The battery for iPhone 4S in the other hand is not something that can be bragged about. Apple only managed to boost around 5% from the previous version’s capabilities and given the long research time on making the iPhone 4S, the improvement on the battery can be said as a failure. Even though talk time in 3G is improved, it sacrifices the standby time on the iPhone 4S.

The processor on the iPhone 4S is the same in the iPad 2, so those who already have the iPad 2 will realise the response time of the device is more or less the same. However, the Apple A5 processor in the iPhone 4s uses much lower voltage compared to the iPad 2 because of the size of the battery being used in the 4S.

Aside from the processor, there are also other chips and hardwares in the iPhone 4S that are the same with the iPad 2. Some of them that has been identified is the accelerometer, gyroscope and also the storage flash chip. Therefore, one can say that iPhone 4S is actually a smaller version of the iPad 2, except with the ability to make calls and such. Is iPhone 4S worth it? Is it really the revolutionary phone that is the benchmark for all other smartphones in the world? You be the judge.

A Compact Review on LG Optimus 3D

LG Optimus 3D is one of the first handheld gadgets equipped with 3D technology. The first known handheld gadget with 3D displays will be the Nintendo 3DS and it has become a major hit in its birthplace, Japan. Currently, there are only two 3D smartphones in the world, LG Optimus 3D and HTC Evo 3D. However, how reliable is the 3D displays of this Android smartphone?

Compared to the Nintendo 3DS, the developers of this phone have done quite a great job and those who never saw 3D displays before will surely be amazed with what the LG Optimus 3D is capable of. This smartphone utilises the parallax barrier technology that enable you to see 3D displays without using special glasses, but it also brings limitation. The 3D displays can only be enjoyed if you see the screen at the right angle. This spells ‘single-user experience’, because anyone around you can only see double images, not 3D images like you are seeing.

LG Optimus 3D Android Phone

Even though the 3D capability is still quite limited, it is still a great joy to the users. The 3D technology is not only available for displays; you can also capture 3D videos using this smartphone.  This is because LG Optimus 3D is equipped with two 5 megapixel cameras at the back to enable this feature. You can also capture full HD videos using this phone. However, you can only capture full HD videos in 2D mode. The ability of the smartphone to capture 3D videos is only at 720p but it is still in HD.

However, the main flaw of the phone will be its short battery life. You will probably need to recharge this smartphone after less of a day’s usage and it can be sooner if you use the phone extensively. If you use the 3D mode of the phone all day, it will of course dry out the battery’s juice faster. Therefore, you will need to always bring a backup charger everywhere you go.

The internal memory is quite high at 8GB and you can always upgrade the storage capacity by utilizing the MicroSD expansion slot. Some other functions available are Bluetooth, Wifi, and also touchscreen. LG Optimus 3D is quite light for its build (less than 200 grams) and it has already been marketed all over the globe. If you want to be one of the first people in the world with a 3D smartphone, you can get your hands on LG Optimus 3D because it is totally worth it.

When Will iPhone 5 be Released?

There has been numerous rumours on when will Apple release the newest version of its iPhone known as iPhone 5. The continuous successes of its previous versions make this smartphone one of the most popular device in the world today. Earlier in the year, iPhone 5 is rumoured to be going into the market by September but now that we are already in that month, this rumour is truly false.  However, iPhone lovers old and new will just need to wait a little more now as there has been a new rumour that it will be released in October 21. This is backed by solid evidence that came from the Apple’s internal retail calendar that marks this date as the date that the phone will make its grand entrance to the market.

As the iPhones always obeys the need of its users by providing the most up-to-date technology all inside a sleek and fashionable device, it is still unclear on how the iPhone 5 will look and the technologies to be used. Here, we will show you some of the features that may be embedded into the iPhone 5.

The first one will be the increase in storage capacity.  As the apps in the Apple’s App Store become more and more big in size, there is already a demand by the users to increase the iPhones’ storage capacity. This will be the most likely improvement to be put inside the iPhone 5 with the capacity expected are 64GB. The signal strength will also be increased in this newest iPhone version because there has been a huge unrest on how bad the iPhone 4 signal strength.

Another improvement to be put into the iPhone 5 will be a high performance battery with longer life. It is expected that iPhone 5 will have up to 14 hours of talk time that doubles the capability of the previous version. It is also expected that iPhone 5 will uses the latest cellular wireless standards for calls and internet browsing which is 4G.

Aside from the internal improvement, the iPhone 5 will also be improved on its external qualities. iPhone 5 will most likely be thinner than its predecessor and this has already become a tradition to the smartphone. The iPhone 5’s screen is also most like shatter-resistance and scratch-proof.

iPhone 5 is the most anticipated phones this year and when it finally come out to the market, it will surely become a massive hit to the world!

Will Smartphones Replace the Laptops & Personal Computers?

Surely it would be hard to imagine a world without PCs, as we can be sure that almost every family in the world now has a PC or laptop for various reasons. However, with the recent market boom on smartphones today, researchers are now calculating the possibility on whether the smartphones will ultimately replace the PCs in the near future or not.

We can already see more and more people are using smartphones rather than laptops to browse the social networking sites in coffee shops and fast foods. Smartphones surely has the better edge in mobility, as smartphones can easily fit inside a pocket or handbag and you can take it out whenever you want. Laptops, which are easier to use on-the-go compared to PCs, still do not have the same mobility as the smartphones because of its size. Even the netbooks are still heavier and bigger than the smartphones, which will be one of the concrete reasons for smartphones to replace the PCs and laptops.

However, smartphones are still unable to surpass the PCs and laptops in term of security. Smartphones save the users’ data in the ‘cloud’ and a connection to the ‘cloud’ will need an internet access. Even though these online databases are guaranteed by the providers to be secured and safe to be used, it does not mean that these databases will not be breached by hackers. Compared to PCs and laptops, they have their own internal storage which excels in both security and size. To prevent the internal storage from being hacked by hackers, they can just cut the internet connectivity if they are not using it. By doing this, laptop and PC users can still do their work as the data needed is all stored inside the device.

However Michael Dell, the CEO of Dell said that smartphones will not be able to kill the laptops and PCs. This is because he considers that these devices are built to complement each other and each of them is dedicated to do a particular task. Therefore, it does not mean that any of them will be killed by another. This just means that the digital device market is expanding, and each person in the world will need more gadgets to live their life. As an example is GPS device that is alien to us in the past but now has been used extensively for travelling and searching for places.

A Preview To Samsung Galaxy S2

Samsung Galaxy S2 (or just S2) is one of the most anticipated smartphones to arrive at the international market along with the Apple iPhone 5. Samsung lovers would rejoice as there are already rumors that the S2 will be launched before the iPhone 5, which will give a competitive advantage in terms of marketing. Deemed as the best smartphone so far, it has a 1.2 GHz lightning fast processor contained in a super-slim chassis that is weighting just around 100grams!

Samsung GALAXY S II

Another remarkable feature of the S2 will be its display, which is the 4.3” SUPER AMOLED Plus display that is dubbed to be the best screen display for any smartphones, mainly because of its sharpness with a low power consumption that reduces the battery usage, which is a common setback in all smartphones in the market. The brilliant display will gives you superior vivid colours on any pictures and videos with a high contrast ratio, making it a great device for videos. The 8MP Camera with LED Flash will make sure that you capture beautiful images and videos in High Definition (HD) for any condition and weather and there is also a 2MP front-facing camera embedded inside this machine.

Aside from the marvelous features of the front-end of the S2, Samsung did not forget to enhance more on the S2’s back-end processes. Samsung Galaxy S2 will be the first Android smartphone that uses powerful encryption software that will maximize your data security and such. S2 users will also be able to transfer their data securely by using the Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync that provides the most reliable Mobile Device Management security while transferring data like emails, calendar, to-do lists and contacts.

Already being reviewed by some of the popular websites, S2 has already being evaluated with not less than 4 stars (from 5) showing that the hype surrounding it is not to be taken lightly. The Samsung Galaxy S2 is also being rated as the best android smartphones available with 3721 points, leaving its nearest rival, the LG Optimus 2X by 300 points. The rating is made by using the Antulu System Benchmark that is be most comprehensive benchmarking app in Android devices.

In conclusion, Samsung Galaxy S2 is the best Android smartphone that is in the market today. An ultimate media experience combines with next generation of web browsing and dual-core processor, it is ridiculous to say that no one will love S2. Samsung Galaxy S2 has really set up a new level for smartphones this year but still one question remains; can it beat the iPhone 5?

How to Safe Yourself From Becoming a Mobile Phone Cybercrime Victim

Android users are growing gradually each day and the threat from the unknown is also increasing each day. It already been proved in the second quarter of 2011 that Apple iPhone operating system (OS) users are still miles apart in quantity from its biggest rival, the Android OS by more than 10 percent, followed by Blackberry OS and Windows Mobile. It has also been testified that the malware hazards that Android users are experiencing today is a couple folds more than the iPhone OS users. Interesting enough, Android users today are 2.5 times more favourably to encounter malicious softwares and files while downloading applications or surfing the internet than they were six months ago.

Seeing this disturbing facts, mobile phone users, regardless of OS they are using, must take actions to prevent them from becoming the victims of cybercrimes. First of all, they must check the source of whatever they are downloading into their phones, whether there are from verified and trusted sources or not. This is because the most popular way for malicious files to invade your phones is by downloading apps that are embedded with it. Look for the developer name or company, and make sure to search for reviews that have been made by the current users of the application whether it works properly or not.

If you are clicking hyperlinks that redirected you to a website that you are unsure of its reliability and usability, check the web links carefully and make sure that the web link matches on what it claims to be from the previous website you visited. This is to ensure that you do not leak any of your private and important information like your Paypal account and credit card number. There are also tonnes of mobile security tools available in the app store that let you check every app that you have downloaded whether it is safety to be used and some of them also have the ability to locate a missing device. Take premeasures like enabling password on your phones so that the data inside will not be extracted easily by the ones who stole it.

Sometimes, phones that are affected by malicious files will also show weird symptoms like unreadable text messages, slow mobile phone performance on processes and rapid decline of battery life. Be alert for all these symptoms and if you encounter any of them, it is safe to restore you phone a new one. Make regular backups on the data inside your phones so that it is easier for you to restore your phone. Make sure to download firmware updates as soon as they are available for your device.

After Mango Comes Tango

After just finishing the revolutionary Windows Phone Mango or Windows 7 just months earlier, Microsoft has already completed their development on a new version of the Windows Mobile. The hype surrounding this development is so great and it becomes hotter when recently, leaked pictures showing one of the new features of this new version called Windows Phone Tango or Windows 7.5.

The feature in spotlight here is the Content Search, where it functions, as the name implies, is by finding the content wanted by the phone users directly on the phone and the web. This content search can also search through the Facebook pages directly without opening the Facebook application, and this has also been proved based from the leaked picture in the Internet. There is still no news yet whether the Content Search will also be operational in Twitter or other social network websites but the chances are quite favourable for it. The Content Search can also search by using voices, which is similar to the function that the iPhones have. This feature received quite a good response and feedback from the existing Windows Phone Mango users.

This Windows Phone Tango is said to be just a stepping stone before the giant release of Windows Phone Apollo or better known as Windows 8 which is scheduled for release next year. This Windows 7.5 is said to be just a small update for the eye-opening Windows 7 and will be available for the Asia region only, and there are also other speculations all over the internet that this update will be available for Nokia phones only, which is categorized as low-priced handphones. This may be an act to save Nokia from being extinct where in a recent poll, only 2 percent of smart phone users are using this brand. The top brand is Apple with 28 percent, followed by RIM Blackberry and HTC with are tied in second place with 20 percent. The highly acclaimed Galaxy S II manufacturer, Samsung is in the fourth place with 10% with Motorola having a tiny advantage over it to take the third place with 11 percent.

Windows Phone Tango has already finalised its development by Microsoft and this operating system is expected to reach you shores in September, which most probably will emerge with a number of newly designed Windows Phone 7.5 devices. Users who fall in love with the beauty and the minimalist design of Windows Phone 7 will surely anticipate the release of this new Windows Phone version.
