The Sony Ericsson Mix Walkman is the latest model under Walkman series. One look and you probably think it is a neat small looking phone that could go unnoticed in your pocket.
That is due to its dimension of 95.8 x 52.8 x 14.3mm and weighted 88g which makes it the lightest phone so far among the Walkman series. It does feel like a toy with its plastic exterior. Moreover, I do feel a little bit uncomfortable with the small screen; maybe because I’m used to larger capacitive screen. On the other hand, it does have the standard SE Walkman buttons with an additional ZAP button that allows you to preview the chorus of a song. And at the back, you could see a standard 3 MP camera.
Surrounding the sidelines is an exchangeable colored strip in four different colors. I don’t see any functionality of it apart from making the already small phone looks cuter.
As for the interface itself, it does what any standard feature phone would do. The scheme is based on four corners button like the smart phone yet it is not a smart phone. It doesn’t run on Android. However, unlike all the other previous SE Walkman, the Mix Walkman comes with WiFi and GPRS/Edge option. This will allow you to do some simple online transaction like e-mail or application download. And again, as it doesn’t run on Android, not much application that you can use. Nonetheless, as it does support Java you can still download some simple Java based application.
Another thing to consider is that it does include a microSD card slot that can expand the memory up to 32 GB. You’ll like it if taking photos with your phone is your kind of thing.
It also includes the fan favorite Karaoke function so you could actually sing along with your song choices. I would be surprise if SE does not include this function as this is a phone that focuses on music lovers.
However, one thing I’m not so happy about is that the SE Walkman Mix doesn’t have a QWERTY keyboard. So it is not suitable for those intending to write a full length e-mail. It does however, as you can actually connect to the internet, add Facebook, Twitter and Google Talk in the application.
Basically, it is a standard feature phone that is incorporated with the Walkman series. Therefore, the price is quite low to and would be perfect for music enthusiast who doesn’t really care much about complex interface.
Nevertheless, other brands like Samsung are coming out with Androids based phone about the same pricing. So I don’t really know whether SE Walkman Mix would be a big hit. I think it would appeal more to loyal users of Sony Ericcson.
